William Morris Hand finished print/ Original work.
I decided to have a play with a one of the giclee prints I had produced before I ever released the work. This piece has been sat in my draw with the intention of hanging in my studio. I created him with the idea that I would be creating an edition of hand finished pieces which I have decided not to do.
If you look closely at the photos you can see the shimmering paint, oil pastel textures and brush marks.
Edition 1 of 1 Size 20.5" x 20.5"
''The William Morris collection stemmed from my love of patterns, in particular Persian carpets which patterns have been said to influence William Morris's work.
Many of us will connect with the patterns as we grew up seeing them among our homes and in recent centuries. William had mastered his work for designing wallpaper in the 1870's and became very popular.
This piece is named ''Hermes'' after the ancient Greek god. Hermes was a god of Luck, Fertility, animal husbandry, wealth, sleep, language and travel. He was one of the most mischievous and cleverest out of the 12 Olympian gods.
I think you will agree with me that the horses playful composition brings a sense of joy and energetic movement to the works and the name Hermes is quite fitting. The butterflies are to represent creativity and transformation.
If you look closely you will notice the patterns emerging from within the horse and the butterflies. This work has been very challenging yet rewarding and I look forward to creating more of the collection."
