''BALIOS" Wings sequelSold Out
Limited edition of 20 in A4 and A3. "BALIOS"
This piece is named BALIOS (Balius) after one of a pair of immortal horses gifted to the hero Peleus by the gods. They drove the chariot of his son Akhilleus (Achilles) in the Trojan War.
With the success of the first 'Wings' Print Edition, which sold out on release, I decided to offer an accompanying print to hang with it, or to stand proud on its own.
This work is printed using a fine art printer, on an archival, matte, watercolour fine art paper. (Please look at the texture on the images, it's such a beautiful fine art paper.)
Story behind the work:
''Originally I had been dreaming about two horses non-stop for a couple of weeks at the start of 2020. I looked forward to seeing them, they would dance around me in a darkly lit field. I could hear their hoof beats coming up from the ground, flowing manes with a soft canter and I was safe in their presence, it was a magical experience.
After the first painting was created, I hadn't known how to create the second piece. My dream had stopped and I have been waiting for them to re-appear. Recently they did, however, the dream was different. Standing in front of me, their breath I could hear and almost feel. They just gave such a majestic aura, calm but playful and giving a sense of belonging, almost like they are family.
This piece was created to compliment the first works, however, I wanted it to have its own identity, I did this by using the same vibrant colour palette as the first piece. I really worked to create its own feel, through the use of pattern and mixed media. The original works was created with oil pastels, watercolour, pencil, acrylic and handmade butterflies.
I instantly knew how the second piece was going to look when I started and I haven't painted in this way before, I do feel as though I'm being asked to paint them. The colour palette originally came from a dream I had about the moon, so one morning I could sense something and I opened my book on the moon. I found a beautiful image on the geological variations on the moons northern hemisphere, it's very colourful and just what I was looking for.
I hope this piece will hang proudly and bring you as much joy as it has done for me, whilst I have been painting the piece.''
